The mission of information on the aesthetic look of the Senate acts published this morning a report where it claims the ban on tanning booths, non-medical use.
Indeed, UV lamps currently used in France are harmful.
But what few people know is that fault in incombea absurd regulations requiring manufacturers to dangerous for users UV lamps.
Government firefighters arsonists
For several years, the artificial tanning is in the sights of the health authorities. In may, a study published by the Ministry of health estimated the responsible practice of 100 to 350 of skin cancer every year in France. The Minister of health, Marisol Touraine, had provided that the rules imposed on operators would be strengthened and that (now priced in some centres) goggles would be made available free of charge.
The senators, to go further to " avoid a future health scandal ": they therefore advocated a ban of the UV cabins, in relying on the argument of thenational Institute of the carcinogenicr and the fact that the Cbetween international research on cancer (Lyon) considers the UVA and UVB (natural and artificial) and carcinogenic to humans.
The report indicates that " is not possible to determine a minimum frequency for which exposure to the UV lamps is without risk." It causes no health benefits: it does not prepare the skin to the Sun, does not or very little vitamin D production and causes premature skin aging. »
This is correct but it is not UV lamps that are dangerous: they are UV lamps such as the French authorities require to manufacture, i.e. with far too many UVA (carcinogenic) and too little ofUVB, while they also carcinogenic at high dose, but which produce vitamin D, and thus have moderate use an protective effect against cancer.
The proper use of ultraviolet B ignored
UV cabin allowed in France issue essentially of UVA and very little UVB.
Apart from the tanning, UVA have little interest and, at high dose, adverse effects on skin ageing and cancer risk.
UVB them can also cause cancer but to moderate dose they are essential to health insofar as they help to synthesize vitamin D.
However, if French cabins deliver very little UVB, the job falls the same authorities which now denounce this situation! Indeed, the French regulations imposes excessive UVA/UVB ratio, while in the United States since 1997 at the tanning booths, this ratio is consistent with that found between 11 and 15 hours in the summer, and that is the bonne window of exposure of the skin to synthesize vitamin D.
Usedes with caution in winter (about 10 minutes per day), the North American cabs can contribute to good health in restaurant and now protective vitamin D levels. Needed for French cabins operators issue of UVB to these places of potential health auxiliary.
French senators who are responsible for an absurd situation therefore missed a good opportunity to actually work pour health asking a regulatory management. On the contrary, their position taken that passes under silence the vital need to expose to the Sun or artificial radiation to synthesize vitamin D, helps demonize ultraviolet, UV-light, including those which are essential in summer to us a little more.
A beautiful mess, especially in summer when many of us to suffer a catastrophic fall time for our level of vitamin D!
