"Eat a little of everything" is the most reliable way of rot you health.
Food today found in stores (including organic) is so unbalanced bad products for health, that if you eat "a little of everything", you sure you find ill, too big, too tired, or too excited.
The rule to follow is to eat good things as possible, and the least possible bad. This sounds simple, but it's hard.
Marketing professionals paid for you to crack
Think that, for each type of chips, candy, drink sweet, there are one or more "product managers", working from Monday to Friday, throughout the year, to reflect on how you to buy more.
These product managers are generally graduates of business schools, and are under the authority of a "group leader", itself dependent on a marketing direction.
Ultimately, these are tens, and often even hundreds of brains studying full time, the "consumer behaviour" to find your weak points. They know precisely the color, the texture, the smell, the taste, the packaging (form, illustrations, material) which will make you crack.
Each week, they must justify the evolution of sales, and develop new strategies to make you yield to the temptation more and more often.
How the kernel has become a junk food
Take the almonds, for example, the food health by excellence... to the origin.
Chewable 25 to 50 g whole almonds, simply peeled, is part of a healthy lifestyle. This gives you vitamins of the Group B (especially vitamin B1, B6 and B9), (particularly well assimilated) magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, copper, (2-3 g per portion) proteins and fibers. In addition, almonds are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (68% of their lipids) and polyunsaturated fats, which contributes to the good health of the heart and arteries, among other benefits.
But our Kings of marketing found that slightly roasted almonds craquaient better to eat. Then they saw that well salted, they were more drool. But it was not enough then they added a small taste of smoked, irresistible.
The problem is that almonds roasted, salted, smoked, have all the same nutritional qualities. To keep the salt needed add peanut oil (almond oil is too expensive). Cooking destroys valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids. Many vitamins are lost.
But this will boost sales. Many people who never bought fresh almonds are there are provided. Currently, only are sold, aperitif RADIUS in Carrefour, toasted almonds, salted, smoked. And, it is that, if you want normal almonds, you will need to go to RADIUS pastry where they are sold... more expensive twice by the Vahine mark! (€32.80 /kg against €16,20 / kg).
Hundreds of products suffered the same evolution, to the point where one wonders if the slogan "eat a little of everything" was not coined precisely by those people who seek to trap you.
But fortunately for you, here are three techniques useful for living your supermarket guerrillas. I applied myself, of course.
The Rainbow diet
And its variant: "If it is white, the eat not."
White flour, white bread, white pasta, milk, mashed chiffon, most food without free color are to avoid.
Generally, the pallor betrays the lack of essential nutrients: it speaks of "empty calories."
Your objective should instead be to your organization a maximum of:
-vitamins;
-minerals (in the right proportions);
-antioxidants, especially of polyphenols.
These nutrients are found mainly in fresh and colourful. Polyphenols are compounds that stained the fruit and vegetables, and that their permit to resist external aggression, who do not have the chance to move when the Sun tape too hard. You need you also to combat free radicals that alter your cell and you are aging, and your only way to get in is to eat colorful fruits and vegetables.
Thus, purple Eggplant and grapes, red pepper and tomato, green spinach, sprouts and the white, the orange carrot and pumpkin, are excellent signs.
Your plate looks like the Rainbow, better it will be for health, from the moment of course where they are not processed; the Rainbow scheme does not work if the colors that are on your plate are those of small gum Haribo bears.
The glycemic index
Forget the fable of the slow sugars and fast sugars. It is the most misleading system which was invented in the field of nutrition, since where it recommended wine to children to fortify them.
Thus, the wand, white pasta and potatoes are considered slow sugars. But they do get your level of blood sugar more quickly than pure sugar! Same for cereals, pastries, pizza, breakfast cereals (for example, Corn Flakes, including without powdered sugar added). Indeed, are roasted cereals (Corn Flakes) or blown (Rice Krispies, Havane) mount your blood glucose (blood sugar) as soon as the table sugar. Eating causes a peak of insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas and which transforms the blood sugar in bad fat. This bad fat accumulates in particular at the level of the viscera, the worst place that is. Then occurs a hypoglycemia, that is, your blood sugar levels after mounted too high, falls too low, because of the excess of insulin.
Eat a cereal bar, it's like letting three pieces of sugar.
A Crescent: 4 pieces of sugar. A bowl of cereal: 6 pieces of sugar. A share of pizza, 6 pieces of sugar!
You must therefore focus on the low glycemic indexfoods, foods that are not too mount your blood glucose in other words.
They do not peak of insulin cause and therefore reduce the risk to grow. They give a feeling of satiety more sustainable. You do not fall in hypoglycemia after having eaten.
Low glycemic index foods include green vegetables, dried vegetables, cocoa-rich dark chocolate, meat and fish.
But in this area where the intuition is misleading, the better is refer you to a table of the glycemic index of foods. You will find a reliable and free website www.montignac.com
Take advantage of the price declines
The products of season fall strongly at the peak of production: Zucchini to the months of July-August, tomatoes in August-September, grape in September. Similarly, the price of fish can strongly fluctuate according to shipments. Enjoy: not only you pay less, but the nutritional quality of your food will be better.
Avoid buying your fresh fruits and vegetables out of season: not only the price will be higher, but they will probably then grown under greenhouse, and of lesser quality. Or they will be imported by air in the southern hemisphere (South Africa Green beans), which is bad for the environment.
On the other hand, out of season, buy your frozen vegetables: often, they were conditioned at the peak of production, which will allow the producer to have cheaper and you see that they are less expensive than fresh RADIUS. In addition, a frozen product has the same food value than its fresh counterpart. It is sometimes even better: frozen fruits and vegetables are often rich in vitamins than fresh purchased because they are frozen immediately after harvest, while expenses pass in cold rooms and stalls, favourable to the destruction of these places.
Attention however: freezing stops not the rancidity of fats. A product is fatty, most his life in frozen form is short.
